Tasmania, Australia’s island state is renown for its untouched wilderness, pristine coastline, cool climate wines and fresh local produce. On the north East coast of Tasmania lies a hidden gem and one of the world's top Links golf courses, Barnbougle Dunes. Upon 200acres of undulating coastal dunes the creative genius of famed golf architect Tom Doak and Australia's Michael Clayton has been realised. Barnbougle, still only in its youth, continues to gain a reputation as one of the world's top links golf courses. The breathtaking landscape upon which the course has been created mirrors the wild coastal links courses of Scotland and Ireland and as Barnbougle continues to develop with age it looks set to follow in the footsteps of these great courses. At Barnbougle golf is an experience that strikes all the senses. With the sun on your back, the wind in your hair, the whiff of sea salt and the roar of the ocean you'll be captivated by all that Mother Nature has to offer. The course presents itself in a new dimension each day providing exciting, challenging golf. Relax for a post round beverage in the welcoming atmosphere of the clubhouse and take advantage of the onsite accommodation, a chip from the 1st tee - perfect excuse for a weekend away. With dramatic golf course views, the Barnbougle cottages are reminiscent of the iconic beach boxes at Brighton Beach in Victoria, but of course much more spacious inside. Designed specifically for a foursome of golfers, with two rooms and a modern bathroom, the patio is the best place to relax and take in the breathtaking sea views as well as golf course vistas. Only a short stroll to the clubhouse and the first tee, as a guest you have easy access to a welcoming restaurant, snack bar and lounge. Offering the unique charm and style of the Tasmanian northeast, all rooms feature the comfort and services you would expected in a top golfing destination. Check in time is after 2pm, with check out is before 10am. Barnbougle Dunes offers 3 types of accommodation:
The Course Barnbougle is a links golf course unlike anything ever seen in Australia. You play between, over, and across towering dunes, where breathtaking views and thrilling golf provides a dramatic setting that is equal to the best links courses in the world. Steve Keipert, Australian Golf Digest in Jan 2005 said “Barnbougle is so jaw-droppingly spectacular that it will be love at first sight for even the most travelled golfer". The course is strong enough to test the best players but fair enough to be joy for any player. Spectacular views and some of the greatest short holes in the world, it is an18 holes championship links golf course whose layout and design equals the great courses of Britain and Ireland. Geoff Slattery of Golf Victoria in June 2004 said “I am so lucky to have played such a brilliant course”. Located on the edge of the small Tasmanian town of Bridport, Barnbougle Dunes is an hour’s drive north-east of Launceston, right on the wild north coast that overlooks Bass Straight. A course for the people, Barnbougle Dunes continues the tradition of the great American public courses at Pebble Beach and Pinehurst and the Old Course at St Andrews in Scotland, having no members. Everyone is welcome to play and enjoy the first class clubhouse facilities. Designed by American Tom Doak and Victorian Mike Clayton, the Barnbougle Dunes experience includes: a championship 18 holes links golf course that has no equal in Australia; driving range, putting green and chipping green with bunkers; 4 star accommodation cottages; and a spectacular public clubhouse.
